A once dangerous road - directly outside a primary school - was transformed into a playful green oasis, with the cars largely banished, except for occasional service vehicles and staff parking. My role in this project was as lead planting design, technical design, and construction supervision.
The scheme has won many plaudits - including winning two categories in the Landscape Institute Awards of 2017.
The simple maintenance requirements for the scheme, while still beautiful, has enabled the local Community Garden Association (HCGA) to maintain the site going forward - demonstrating that a model of community maintenance can work for practical purposes, but also for health and wellbeing purposes.
