The scheme created a series of habitat pools and scrapes. A sinuous swale was integrated, to clean runoff from the adjacent road, ahead of the river. Designs included bird hides, as well as carefully planned walking routes and parking. An otter holt was included in designs, to offer optimum habitat value.

Monitoring and wetland concept designs by 35percent/HWT began the design process. Blue Green Studio and 35 percent developed planning drawings, which included visitor parking, access considerations, extensive hedge planting, as well as wetland and suds designs. Following planning success, final construction drawings were created for JPR Environmental to work from.

Together with Bodenham Lake and Lugg Meadow, this reserve forms part of the flagship Lugg Valley Nature Reserves.
